Cruises

My own training is critical when creating event and travel experiences for my clients. I'm excited that I have completed the "Meetings & Events at Sea" certificate program, offered through a partnership between Meeting Professionals International (MPI) and Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA).

Cruise ships offer incredible options for events - whether a retreat, workshop, expo, conference or incentive.

With lower cost, lower risk, and the chance to bring along your family, cruising is becoming a more and more popular venue option.

I recommend:

  • 3, 4 or 5 day itineraries that allow just enough (though not too much) time away to maximize the event experience.

  • Exploring the different gateways and ports, like:

    • Baltimore, Maryland to Bermuda

    • Boston, Massachusetts to Eastern Canada

    • Boston, Massachusetts to Bermuda

    • Cape Liberty, New Jersey to Bermuda

    • Charleston, South Carolina to the Bahamas

    • Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Mexico

    • Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas

    • Fort Lauderdale to the Western Caribbean

    • Fort Lauderdale to Havana, Cuba

    • Galveston, Texas to Mexico

    • Galveston, Texas to Western Caribbean

    • Jacksonville, Florida to the Bahamas

    • Los Angeles/San Diego, California to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

    • Los Angeles/San Diego, California to Mexico

    • Miami to the Bahamas

    • Miami to Havana, Cuba

    • Miami to Mexico

    • Miami to Eastern Caribbean

    • Miami to Western Caribbean

    • Mobile, Alabama to Mexico

    • New Orleans, Louisiana to Mexico

    • New Orleans, Louisiana up the Mississippi River

    • New York, New York to Bermuda

    • New York, New York to Eastern Canada

    • Norfolk, Virginia to the Bahamas

    • Port Canaveral, Florida to the Bahamas

    • Port Canaveral, Florida to Eastern Caribbean

    • Port Canaveral, Florida to Havana, Cuba

    • Seattle, Washington to British Columbia, Canada

    • Tampa, Florida to Mexico

    • Tampa, Florida to Western Caribbean

    • Tampa, Florida to Havana, Cuba

    • Tampa, Florida to the Bahamas

  • A variety of cruise lines offer short itineraries geared for holding events:

    • Mass Market – Carnival, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean

    • Premium – Holland America, Celebrity, Princess, Cunard, Disney, Azamara

    • Luxury – SeaDream Yacht Club

  • What's the difference?

    • Mass Market ships are the mega large ships that offer something for just about everyone – from dining options to entertainment options.  They are typically known for having extensive children and teen programs.

    • Premium ships are typically medium to large vessels. Less passengers means more spacious feel.  They still offer choices for dining and entertainment, just not as many but the choices tend to be more upscale.

    • Luxury ships are smaller ships with a high level of personal service.  They are known for offering gourmet cuisine, more interesting ports, more inclusive pricing and larger cabins.
